Analysis of the Impact of Smart Devices on Worker’s Commute Behaviors

Abstract

Commute time for domestic workers is at the top of the OECD, which means that the time spent in transit is higher. As the usage of smart devices increased in the transportation in the IT age, this study analyzed the effect of smart devices on the commute behaviors of the workers. Commute time and commute satisfaction were used as dependent variables. Independent variables were selected considering usage of smart device, usage contents and personal characteristics (sex, age, etc.). As a result of analysis, common variables affecting commute time and commute satisfaction were gender (male), marriage (unmarried), income, education, working time through smart devices, usage of smart devices in transit, one-person household. Income has an effect on commute time and overuse of smart devices influences commute satisfaction. In addition, the correlation between commute time and commute satisfaction was analyzed through decision trees. The analysis shows that gender, usage of smart devices in transit, and income variables have a major impact. As a result of this study, it is necessary to improve the quality of life by increasing the satisfaction of commute with smart devices.

국내 직장인의 통근시간은 OECD가운데 상위권에 머물고 있으며 이는 차 내에서 보내는 시간이 높아짐을 의미한다. IT시대를 맞이하여 교통수단 내에서 스마트 기기 사용량이 증가되는 만큼 본 연구는 스마트 기기가 직장인의 통근행태에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 종속변수는 통근시간 및 통근만족도를 사용하였고, 독립변수는 스마트 기기 사용빈도 및 사용내용, 개인특성(성별, 연령 등)을 기반으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 통근시간 및 통근만족도에 공통적으로 영향을 미치는 변수는 성별(남성), 혼인(미혼), 소득, 학력, 직장이외 스마트 기기를 통한 업무시간, 차내에서 스마트 기기 사용량, 1인 가구 등이 도출되었다. 이외 소득 변수는 통근시간, 스마트 기기 과도사용은 통근만족도에만 영향변수로 도출되었다. 추가로 통근시간 및 통근만족도 간의 상관분석을 위해 의사결정나무를 기반으로 분석한 결과 성별, 차내에서 스마트 기기 사용량, 소득 변수가 주요한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이처럼 스마트 기기는 통근활동에 다양한 영향을 미치는 만큼 본 연구를 기반으로 통근만족도를 높임에 따라 직장인의 삶의 질을 개선시킬 필요가 있겠다.
