Analysis of Factors Affecting Perceived Risk of COVID-19 Infection in Public Transportation 대중교통 이용특성과 코로나19 감염 위험 인식에 미치는 요인 분석

Abstract

The world is experiencing an unprecedented pandemic crisis of COVID-19. In the absence of any pharmaceutical intervention, social distancing measure has been implemented in many countries to prevent the spread of Corona 19 by minimizing the exposure of the virus by reducing contact between individuals and groups. People’s activity decreased according to social distancing measures, which resulted in a decrease of travel demand. In particular, compared to other means of transportation, the public transportation ridership decreased significantly. However, the focus is mainly on the change in the amount of use by means, and few studies have analyzed individual perceptions in COVID-19. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the perception of the possibility of COVID-19 infection in public transportation, along with this, to understand the satisfaction with the disinfection measures of public transportation, and changes in public transportation traffic behavior due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Satisfaction with the disinfection measures divided into public transportation means and space (vehicle/stop) and changes in travel behavior before and after COVID-19 outbreak are compared. In addition, we conduct descriptive statistics analysis to compare differences in personal perceptions caused by travel behavior, personal chracteristics, trip attributes, and regional factors, and further, ordered logit model is estimated to identifying the relationship between variable factors and perceived risk of COVID-19 infection in public transportation. The results indicate that personal chracteristics, trip attributes, perception of public transportation, and regional factors affect perception of the risk of COVID-19 infection in public transportation. The influence differs depending on whether or not subway service is provided in the area where the respondent resides. This study can be used to establish and prioritize public transport policies required in the post-corona era in the future.

코로나19의 급격한 확산으로 전 세계가 전례 없는 전염병 위기를 겪고 있다. 코로나19 발생 초기, 백신 등의 약물적인 예방수단을 기대하기 어려운 상황에서 개인 및 집단 간의 접촉을 줄임으로써 바이러스 노출을 최소화하여 코로나19의 전파를 막기 위한 사회적 거리두기 조치가 많은 나라에서 시행되고 있다. 사회적 거리두기 조치에 따라 사람들의 활동이 감소하였고, 이는 이동의 감소로 나타났다. 특히 다른 교통수단에 비해 대중교통을 이용한 이동이 크게 감소하였다. 다만, 국내의 연구는 주로 수단별 이용량의 변화에 초점이 맞춰져 있으며, 개인의 인식에 대한 연구는 미미한 실정이었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 개인이 느끼는 대중교통 수단에서의 코로나19 감염 가능성 인식을 조사하였으며, 이와 함께 대중교통 수단의 방역조치에 대한 만족도, 코로나19 발생으로 인한 대중교통 통행행태의 변화를 파악하고자 하였다. 대중교통 수단과 공간(차량/정류장)별로 방역조치에 대한 만족도의 차이를 비교하였으며, 코로나19 발생 이후 대중교통 이용 빈도, 이용 시간 등의 통행행태의 차이를 비교하였다. 또한, 통행행태 개인 속성, 대중교통 이용 특성, 지역에 따른 개인이 느끼는 인식의 차이를 비교하기 위해 기술통계분석을 수행하였으며, 나아가 대중교통에서의 코로나19 감염 가능성 인식에 대한 순서형 로짓 모형을 구축하였다. 그 결과 개인 속성, 대중교통 이용특성, 대중교통에 대한 인식, 지역적 요인이 대중교통에서의 코로나19 감염 가능성 인식에 영향을 주었으며, 응답자가 거주하는 지역의 지하철 서비스 제공 여부에 따라 결과가 다소 차이가 있었다. 이러한 결과는 향후 포스트 코로나 시대에서 요구되는 대중교통 정책을 수립하고, 우선순위를 결정하는 데 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
