Environmental Impacts and Recommendations of VISSIM Truck Parameter Settings

Abstract

When micro simulation software is used to calculate the effects of traffic operations, a default truck provided in the software is normally used. This routine is not a serious problem when the composition ratio of trucks is low or the terrain is flat. However, in the opposite case, it is judged that the results will be greatly affected depending on how trucks are modeled. Therefore, this study quantified the effects of the parameter settings of trucks in simulation software in terms of traffic operations and the environment by using the simulation software VISSIM. First, the default truck provided in VISSIM was compared to light-duty, medium- duty, and heavy-duty trucks with different load capacities and engine performance under various roadway grade conditions. Next, in order to analyze the impacts on the traffic flow rather than a single truck, a traffic flow consisting of only the default trucks and a traffic flow reflecting the composition ratio of actual trucks were analyzed and compared. Looking at the results of the analysis, in the case of a single truck, it was found that the fuel consumption varies from 12% to 44% depending on the type of truck and the ratio of cargo loading, and the large truck is the most similar to the default truck in terms of fuel consumption. As a result of analyzing the impacts on traffic flow, using the default truck resulted that the fuel consumption is larger up to 31% and delay is larger up to 555%, which was overestimated than the results obtained by using the national composition ratio. Through the results of this study, it was possible to understand the sensitivity of the effects of parameters of trucks in the process of evaluating the eco-friendliness and it is judged that a reasonable truck parameter setting method can be derived in simulation model construction processes.

교통운영의 효과를 산출하기 위하여 미시적 시뮬레이션 소프트웨어를 사용하는 경우 트럭은 소프트웨어에서 제공하고 있는 디폴트 트럭을 사용하는 경우가 많다. 이러한 경향은 트럭의 구성비가 낮거나 지형이 평지인 경우 크게 문제가 되지 않으나 반대의 경우 트럭을 어떻게 모델링 하느냐에 따라 결과에 많은 변동을 발생 시킬 것으로 판단된다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 시뮬레이션 소프트웨어인 VISSIM을 활용하여 시뮬레이션 소프트웨어에서 트럭의 파라미터 설정에 따라 교통소통과 환경측면에서 결과에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 산출하였다. 우선 단일트럭의 영향을 분석하기 위하여 VISSIM의 Default 값을 적용한 기본트럭과 실제 도로에서 운행중인 트럭을 화물의 적재량과 엔진 성능에 따라 소형, 중형, 대형트럭으로 구분하여 다양한 도로 경사 조건에서 그 영향을 비교 분석하였다. 다음으로 단일트럭이 아닌 교통류에서의 영향을 분석하기 위하여 기본트럭으로만 구성된 교통류와 실제 주행하는 트럭의 구성비를 반영한 교통류를 비교 분석하였다. 분석한 결과를 살펴보면, 단일트럭의 경우 트럭의 종류와 화물 적재 비율에 따라 연료 소모량이 12%-44%까지 변화하는 것으로 나타났으며, 대형트럭이 연료 소모량 측면에서 기본트럭과 가장 유사하게 나타났으며, 중형, 소형 순서로 차이가 크게 발생하였다. 교통류에서의 영향을 분석한 결과 기본트럭을 이용하여 모델링할 경우 연료 소모량 최대 31%, 지체 최대 555%로 전국의 평균적인 트럭을 모델링하여 산출한 결과값 보다 과도하게 예측되는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 트럭을 포함한 교통류를 환경측면에서 평가하는 과정에서 파라미터 설정에 따른 영향의 민감도를 파악할 수 있었으며, 이를 통해 시뮬레이션 모형을 수립하는 과정에서 합리적인 트럭 파라미터 설정 방법을 도출할 수 있었다.
